Sharon Hinckley

Originally from Maryland, Sharon is a graduate of Stanford University and Master Yoga Academy.  She has traveled extensively, painting and teaching "on location" in many parts of the world including spending five years living in Asia.

She currently lives in La Jolla, California where with her husband and "fur people."  Susan has had numerous one-woman shows and her work is represented in many private and corporate collections including Bank of America, San Diego Children's Hospital, Scripps Hospital and the Taipei National Museum of History.

Her work was selected to appear in Splash 3 and The Best of Floral Painting.  Her own book, Watercolor Basics: Painting Flowers, was published by Northlight Books in 1999.  She was commissioned by the U.S. Post Office to design the program cover for the first day issue of the "Fall Garden Flowers" series of stamps presented at Quail Gardens.

Sharon always prefers to work from life.  Her "plein-air" style of painting reflects her love of Light and Color.  Her vivid watercolors reflect the beauty of our world.

Artist Statement:
"Watercolor is almost like playing a game of tennis.  You've got to be on top of the ball all the time, and ready to respond.  There's a lot of timing involved...I still look for the moment of silence when I paint."
