Belisario Contreras was born in Valparaiso, Chile June 28, 1916 and lived in Washington DC until his death March 31, 1990. While contemporary in style, his paintings are strong in impressionistic feeling. He used various techniques to achieve subjective feelings and thought, rather than a pictorial concept. He creates an atmospheric perspective to represent feelings through images, form, symbolism and color, which he felt expressed the essence of life.
